Auto Insurance – What's The Difference?

Drivers across the great state of Texas, from Houston to Amarillo, have a variety of choices when it comes to selecting the auto insurance that is best for them.  In terms of coverage, there are typically five separate types of coverage that auto insurance can provide.  Which one is best for a particular driver depends on factors that range from the customer's budget to (in the case of a car that is being leased or has not yet been paid off) requirements that the lien holder may have for the person leasing or buying the car with a loan.

In short, auto insurance is available in five separate forms or levels.  Each different level provides a specific type of coverage for a vehicle.  Each level is also different in terms of the cost of having the insurance as well as in terms of who is actually covered by the insurance policy.

Auto insurance can also vary in price depending on the city where the car is being housed.  Some cities are deemed more dangerous than others, and as a result citizens have to pay higher premiums to insure their cars.  In other words, auto insurance in Houston may be more expensive than auto insurance in El Paso.

The basic forms of auto insurance coverage available include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, medical payments coverage, uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, physical damage that includes collision and comprehensive coverage.  These types of coverage are available across the state of Texas, from Houston to Amarillo.

Bodily injury insurance is designed to cover people who may have been injured in an accident that the policyholder may have been involved in.  With property damage insurance, an individual is protected or covered for any damages that he or she may have caused to the car of another person involved in an accident.

Medical liability coverage is meant to cover the medical payments and costs associated with treatments that result when an individual is involved in an accident and such treatments are required.  This coverage typically covers the driver as well as any passengers who were with the driver at the time of the accident.

One of the most important types of auto insurance coverage is uninsured or underinsured coverage.  In many cases, a driver may be involved in an accident where the other party either does not have auto insurance or does not have enough auto insurance.  In these cases, the driver with the coverage is protected when the person responsible for the accident does not have any auto insurance of his or her own.

Physical damage auto insurance, also known as comprehensive and collision insurance, is designed to cover the damages that occur during a collision as well as damage that may result from hail or floods.
